Tanjung aka Georgetown

Penang wont be a penang without its homeless and suku kia (mentally challenge) people. I remembered when I was 6, waiting for the bus at Prangin going to Batu Feringghi. I was idly sitting on the floor, suddenly got this suku kia uncle kicked me while shouting profanities. Apparently I was sitting at his favorite spot! Lost my mood for picnic already :p

I got traumatic everytime I saw Sheila Majid's video clip, pengemis muda....

E&O hotel.

Err? Could we bring horse/live animal inside the room? Must be the 1880s ordinance/Act.

Nightlife in Georgetown. The club row, yeah singular, not that many clubs could survive in Penang. Maybe because of the locations, maybe because of the frequent raid, or maybe because the Penangites are kiam siap (prudence living :p)

Penang Road at night

Penang Road at night 2

Night sky... Full Moon.
Konfirm lepas ni akan ada komen "berdosa letak gambar tokong. cepatlah bertaubat."

KFC Komtar... 15 years after, this place is still here. My first paid job. $1.80 per hour. I worked for free for my uncles before. Groceries shop / constructions labor.. So wasn't me.. kikiikiki

KFC komtar. Slaving myself for a mere $300 per month. I flunked the first interview. Yeah could you believe it? I couldnt commit to the late hour because I thought the last bus was at 10pm (MPPP bus to Jelutong). Turned up it was 12.30midnight to Balik Pulau (PYB bus). So the next day I went again reapplied for the same job to the same interviewer. Luckily I got the job.. See, perseverance pays!

Paid the $30 for the uniform's deposit and I started work the next day.

Back then the uniform was brown/yellow in color. I was working as a buzzer, i.e. table cleaner. Penangites have/had a very poor table manner. They liked to put the bones on the table outside the tray and they always scatterred the bones apart. Kinda gross for us to clean the mess up afterward.

and ohh not to forget.. I learnt some neat trick there too. ;)~

What used to be a ramadhan bazaar.. now a fcuk place?

Talking about Komtar, I found out from SSQuah that apparently, komtar is a phallic symbol for Penang, complete with ball(s). And the only state that have a complement the phallic symbols (what's the antonym for phallic?). The Penang hill train track was rumored to signify vajayjay. Thats why once a month it breaks down. kikikikiki.

Whoaaaa ah beng also has his own building. Dont play play.

The second best nasi kandar in town after Jelutong Nasi Kandar.. Nasi kandar beratur. Right next to the Kapitan Kling Mosque

If you think the "line clear" nasi kandar is the best... well, pity you! Not only line clear was the filthiest place in Penang, the nasi kandar also is not that authentic... kikikikiik

Close up. Opening hours is 10pm onwards! But sometimes if youre lucky it also open for lunch :p

The Masjid Kapitan Kling next to it.

Ferry to Butterworth... I wish!

Private yachts jetty .

The old Jetty. Back then this was the entry point for Penang. At the Weld Quay or Welki (the way my granma pronounce it :p)

The old BHL Bank building next to the Customs Building

No wonder I never feel the sense of belonging

Excellent tools from the www.globesmart.com

Mine - the black line vs South east asian people works' value. No wonder I could never climb the corporate ladder here. Im suck at kissing assbuilding relationship. And could never understand why theyre so lembab.

Mine vs the west. See im not bermulut laser.. Im just being direct :p

I should have work in Israel/ Swiss. We shared similar values... kikiikiki

Intipati kajian

Independent/Interdependent
===========================
People in Malaysia are more interdependent than you. This means that they may conform to social norms more than you do. Because of this, your counterparts from Malaysia may:
- Require more input from others before taking action than you do;
- Take more time in their decision-making process than you;
- Be less forthcoming about speaking of their achievements than you;
- Offer fewer personal opinions and be more cautious in expressing disagreement than you;
- Have more appreciation of protocol than you.

Your profile is very close to the average profile of people from Switzerland on this dimension. This means that you may be similar to your counterparts from Switzerland in the way you think and feel about:
- The degree to which you should conform - or not conform - to social norms;
- How much privacy - or lack of privacy - is to be expected in a given situation;
- How and when personal opinions should be offered and disagreement expressed;
- How much individuality and/or adherence to protocol is appropriate.

Task/Relationship
===========================
People in Malaysia are more relationship-focused than you. This means they are likely to spend more time building and maintaining strong relationships and place less emphasis on efficiency and timelines than you. Because of this, your counterparts from Malaysia may:
- Be less likely than you to focus on getting a task done if it is at the expense of maintaining harmonious relationships.
- Place less importance than you do on reaching goals and objectives on schedule;
- Be more indirect than you in offering criticism of other's work.

Your profile is very close to the average profile of people from Switzerland on this dimension. This means that you may be similar to your counterparts from Switzerland in the way you think and feel about:
- The amount of time that should be spent on building and maintaining relationships;
- The degree of emphasis that should be placed on efficiency and adherence to timelines;
- The extent to which it is appropriate to criticize the work of others.

Short-term/Long-term
===========================
People in Malaysia are somewhat more focused on the long-term view than you. This means they are likely to place more emphasis on the "big picture" and less emphasis on short-term profits. Because of this, some of your counterparts from Malaysia may:
- Take more time than you to develop business relationships, but they may also expect them to last longer;
- Spend more time planning how they will meet their long-term strategic goals;
- Involve more people in making decisions and thus take more time to finalize them.

People in Switzerland have somewhat more of a short-term orientation than you. This means they may place more emphasis on short-term results and profits than you. Because of this, some of your counterparts from Switzerland may:
- Develop business relationships more quickly than you;
- Place less emphasis on the "big picture" and more emphasis on getting things done quickly;
- Spend less time planning for long-term strategic goals;
- Make decisions more quickly than you.

Direct/Indirect
===========================
People in Malaysia have a somewhat more indirect style than you. This means they may be less direct and more ambiguous in the way they communicate. Because of this, some of your counterparts from Malaysia may:
- Be less willing than you to ask questions or give direct feedback in meetings, especially when more senior members are present;
- Be more subtle when expressing disagreement;
- Be less willing to debate issues in public forums;
- Prefer that certain things be left unsaid.

So much has changed, yet some still the same

I always got the question: "Which part of penang you're from?"
... Jelutong.

Typical response
... ***Blank stare***, Oh, near Bukit Mertajam/Cheruk Tok Kun/Parit Buntar is it?

*rolled my eyes*... It's in the island!

... Ha ha, never passed by. I usually just go straight to Georgetown from the bridge.

You nit wit, in order for you to go to Tanjung, you have to go through Jelutong, well unless you're taking the Greenlane (if you did, youre taking the long way, + the jam, plus you still gonna go through Jelutong a bit via batu lancang).

And NO, its not near Shah Alam either!!!! Thats Bukit Jelutong.

Anyhow, for those blur2 sotong readers out there.. here is the map of Jelutong. Jelutong is a small town bordering Gelugor (South), Weld Quay/Tanjung (North), Greenlane(West) and Butterworth/Prai (Across the sea). There's east Jelutong (along the coast), and there's West Jelutong (across the Jelutong road)

More on wikipedia. (Oooppss checked already, not much there... hi hih ih)

Its a very small town, well, with Georgetown is 5 minutes away, there's no point of having a huge township. The prominent buildings here (at least for me) are/were Suiwah Supermarket (defunct), Post office, Jelutong Market (the best egg apom is sold here -- cooked over the charcoal's stove), One row of old shophouses (one of them served the best Nasi Kandar in Penang), Police Station, Mosque, Soy sauce factories and Dumbar Hill (not a building though)

The infamous Jelutong mosque

The road lead to the house. Next to the mosque.. I had to endure this path every midnight I came back from waiting table at the KFC komtar. I always got the night shift! Fine, its just a small path, whats there to complain, no?

Well, try walking down this lane at 12ish midnight. Knowing very well you're walking through the oldest cemetery on the island.. and a very long one too..

If that was not torturing enough, there's this strip of road that reminded me of that P Ramlee's movie (anakku sazali)

Where he had to walk by a huge, scary looking tree after the violin lesson. With additional twist. See that house behind the tree, yeah, there was an Ah Pek committed suicide, and allegedly, the poor soul was still restless and the whole family had to move out.

Phew.

Finally, home of Nyonya Said,
xxxx East Jelutong,
11600 Georgetown, Penang (Yup, my add is that short).

Hi hi, mcm tak berpenghuni! Jendela sudah tidak dibuka kerana sudah tiada makna, tiada angin pantai menderu masuk ke dalam rumah.. Hanyalah debu2 merah yg menyesakkan dada.

We used to have the beach right in front of the house. I didn't like it though. too much noise, (the waves), drove me insane at night, couldnt sleep!!! kikikiki..

If you think that this is the view we had, you're so wrong! well, at least in the 80s it was.. Until they built the KOMTAR and the bridge.

By the 90's this was what greeted me every morning when we opened the windows. Not that bad?

Sorry, but let me zoomed in.

Complete with those slimy mudskippers. But never stopped us from playing with those selut (mud).. every evening me and my cousins would had a blast throwing muds. our granma was not amused though... A quick twig snapped, or coconut's lidi, would made us scrammed into the bathroom...

By the 2000's, the land was reclaimed, and the Jelutong Expressway was built, with apartments here and there...

Nowadays, here's the grand view!

And extra scenery during raya! Urghhhhh.....

Mati Suri

4 sekaligus, kemalangan agaknyer...

Typical view from my room window, sometimes the smell was so rotten we joked that "org ini mesti amat berdosa".

===============================
Azian and me were at the curve, and suddenly we decided to go for a movie (midnight).. Nothing much was showing, so we saw this poster.. Mati Suri.. Indonesian movie... looks scary, so okay lah.. we bought the ticket and went inside.

About 30 min after the movie started, there were these group of indians couples latecomers. We were already like.. "eh, faham ke cerita indon? Cerita hantu pulak tu.."

5 minutes after that I think the reality sank...

There were small commotions in Tamil "yenna ????? *** yadda, yadda -undiciphered language **, mattisuree *yadda, yadda*?" Sambil bergegas keluar...

Sah, salah masuk wayang, main beli tiket jer kan... They must have thought MattiSuree/Mati Suri was a tamil movie..

Sorry, this movie got no kushboo in it...

Only Nadine Chandrawinata.

No singing and dancing also.. just latar belakang music seram.

*Mati suri = comatose

Malaysia defends slide in global graft ranking
(AP) – 16 hours ago

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Malaysia has stepped up efforts to combat graft to maintain investor confidence as a survey showed the country's corruption ranking worsened this year, Trade Minister Mustapa Mohamad said Wednesday.

Malaysia fell to 56th position out of 180 countries in Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index 2009, compared to 47th last year. The fall in ranking is due to the perception that there has been little progress and political will to combat graft.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission appears to focus on "small fish" and opposition politicians, said the annual report by Transparency that was published Tuesday.

An opposition leader, Lim Kit Siang, called the downgrading a "national shame" and a major blow for Prime Minister Najib Razak, who declared the war against corruption as a key priority after taking power in April this year.

The trade minister said the government remained committed to weeding out graft but that measures would take time to bear fruit.

A government lawmaker and five other politically linked people were charged earlier this month with corruption in unrelated cases. It is rare for ruling party politicians to be charged with corruption.

"People have confidence in the measures that we have taken. The results will not come overnight but the results are beginning to show," Mustapa told reporters.

"We are quite confident that the next ranking exercise will see an improvement in Malaysia's position," he said.

Corruption is pervasive in Malaysia and ranges from small bribes to police officers to millions of dollars for contracts.

Umno mungkin ambil alih peranan MCA bantu kaum Cina: TPM

Ah Long Resort To Facebook To Humiliate Debtors

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- It appears that the 'ah long' (loan shark) never say die. They are leaving no stone unturned!

They have now resorted to the popular social networking website, Facebook, to threaten and humiliate debtors into settling outstanding debts.

MCA Public Service and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong said the new modus operandi involved posting of the victim's identity, including photographs, personal information and their debts, on the website.

"Prior to this, the 'ah long' used red paint and posters to humiliate their debtors but now, they are posting the debtors' personal information on the social website," he told reporters at the MCA headquarters here Monday.

Chong said the latest case involved a car accessory shop worker who found an ah long's threatening message posted on the website, demanding that he pay his outstanding debts.

The 25-year-old victim from Batu 9, Cheras, had taken a RM1,000 loan in September, but was now forced to pay RM80,000, inclusive of interests accrued.

The victim lodged a report at the Kajang police headquarters last Friday.

Failed Astro "promotion"

Was having my lunch when I received a call from Astro :
AR: Because youre such a loyal customers, we are giving you free insurance.
Me: TQVM... I'm already covered
AR: No, no, you dont have to pay a thing. You are not the one who received this.. bla bla bla, said something about 6 months coverages and after that it will automatically stopped.
Me: So I have to get sick or get into an accident within this 6 months la to claim?
AR: errrr
Me: Instead of wasting money giving me coverage on which I already have, why dont you guys give me subscription discount, say RM20 off for the next six month.
AR: I dont come up with this promotion sir. The insurance agent will call you shortly to get the details. *Hang Up*

*AR = Astro Rep

I'm such a biatch always sometimes. But seriously, this is stupid. 6 months coverage? I bet no one would claim, and if they would, the Insurance co will give hell... this document missing la, we dont cover this type of ailment la, etc...

Something smell fishy up there.. Someone must have made some money out of this arrangement.....

========================================
World's smallest mother to risk giving birth for third time

The world’s smallest mother is about to give birth for the third time - despite warnings she is risking her life.

Stacey Herald, who is just 2ft 4in tall, was told that becoming pregnant could kill her, but bravely defied doctors to have two babies half her height.

The 35-year-old from Dry Ridge, Kentucky in the U.S. suffers from Osteogenesis Imperfecta, which causes brittle bones and underdeveloped lungs, and means she failed to grow.

Now Mrs Herald, who uses a wheelchair, and her husband Will, who is 5ft 9in, are eagerly awaiting the birth of their third baby, due in the next four weeks.

Currently as wide as she is tall, she cannot hold her daughter because her belly gets in the way, and has to rely on her husband to do most things around the house.

She admits being pregnant is ‘uncomfortable’ and leaves her bedridden for weeks on end.

By the time the new addition, a boy, is one he will already tower over his mother.

But despite all the obstacles, the mother and father, a trainee priest, say they want even more children.

Grossology 2: Male Toilet

Why is that there's always pubic hairs got stuck in the urinal. How does it get there? does short people scraped their penises on the bowl? How did they loose those hairs in the first place?

Mostly by ah-pek i think, because they dont believe in trimming...

I googled the pic (thus the toilet bowl image instead of the urinal.. but you get the point). Too gross to take the one in our restroom.

Urghhhh.... So repulsive!

Hope you're not my reader

Was having my snack at the food court. They're not that many crowd today with pockets of empty tables everywhere.

But suddenly go these couple sit right in front of me...

Hmmmmmm, when my ex-boss said I was invisible, I thought she just meant it figuratively... *twilight zone music*
