Another UnSuccessful Attemp

The most dreaded moment of the hunt.. Woke up at the crack of dawn on Sunday!

Paid RM80 for the fee, but there's one group didnt pay (the cheque bounced!), but managed to get top 5!!!! Grrrrrrr....

Nombor sebelas sajor. Jadilah, balik modal.

Deep in concentrations. Must be cracking their head deciphering this clue:

50 in 43.

Yup, thats all the clue. And the answer is Blush. 50 is L in Roman numbering, whereas 43 is the 43rd president of the US. But L in Bush, you got blush!

Haiyah!

But overall i think this year's challenge is easier than previous year's:
1 - because there's no tulip. No need to scour like a headless chicken looking for answers.

2 - only 2 stops. The weld and GE Mall

3 - smaller areas to cover. If they choose Midvalley and Pavilion, i think im gonna die.

4 - except for a couple fo really though questions, the rest are straight to the point :p

Lepas beliau beliau, the same team who kept on winning every year :p

Final Score: 47 out of 115 (Treasure Hunt Part V - Final)

The prize giving ceremony was held during dinner on Saturday, June 2nd.

The Treasure Hunt was divided into 3 questionnaires. The actual hunt, the bonus treasures and the Quiz.

The quiz was the easiest amongst all, and this year, the marks were counted separately. Thus, separate prizes were given for this. There were 15 images/faces that you have to name. i.e Buttercup, Wil E. Coyote, Angelina Jolie, Eminem, David Becham (when they were very young) etc. We scored 11/15 and emerged the winner.

"This is the only prize you guys gonna get tonite" the MC remarked....

Fine lah, it was so tough and we were late, we might have negative marks instead.

Sans Par = A Diameter In Bed
========================
Then the MC gave the answers for the bonus treasures. We got 3 treasures correctly (Pepsi Max, Meow meow pizza flavored snack and ?? forgot?? ), which carried 15 marks (5 marks each). We missed the carrot and the dvd one.

The carrot clue was 'A Diameter in Bed.' That was it.... Apparently bed = cots. Diameter = radius x 2 = rr. Thefore you got

COTS + A + RR

CARROTS

Like stupid right... plus when I learnt trigo in high skool it was jj not rr (jejari meh)

So, being me, I bought .. hi hi ... SWISS ROLL mkay! Well, it looks fluffy (like bed) and its round (diameter), so I bought it lah.. Turned out there's like 3-4 other teams bought the same thing. Great Minds Think Alike...

As for the dvd, the clue was about a pirates of the Caribbean's captain. Without equal, you may continue your game.... something like that.

So I went to capt-jacksparrow.blogspot.com for the answer. Of course there's nothing specific there. But there a line about gatorade and paper cups. So we decided to buy the Gatorade (I was so impressed Maran town has got 7-Eleven).

Ultimately, the correct answer was jacksrow.blogspot.com. Without EQUAL = without PAR, so we need to drop that freakin PAR from SPARROW. Only inside that jackscrew thingy that the actual clue was given.

SAMUEL
========================

This my friend, is a soapy salami.

Then he moved on with the actual questionnaires. By then all hopes of winning were gone. (Ironically, ASTRO was showing Star Wars - A New Hope, that nite)

There was lots of puzzle inside a puzzle and anagram kind of Q this year (last year was Roman Numerals) . The toughest one was

Samuel.

That's all of it... Just plain Samuel. Samuel Jackson? Samuel in Bible? Samuel Anggun Ambin? Which samuel?

The answer pissed me off to the core... It's the Kitar SEMULA (please recycle) billboard. So simple yet so... grrrrrr.

Shame, shame, shame
========================
We scored 61 out of 115. Then minus 14 pts for being late. Final tally was 47. Last year we got 108 out of 130 for the 11th place. This is a day of infamy indeed.....

The 'winners' for 15 - 10th place were called out and it was obvious we're not in the list....

'8th Place: Traveling Ducks: 47 Points'

Get out !!!! For Real ???

WE WON!! Something..

*GRIN*

Although, technically we were in the 5th place, we are more than happy to get lucky number 8.

So, that nite we went to bed.. happy.. And continued watching Star Wars marathon

Stuffed Crab (Treasure Hunt Part IV)

The night after the dinner, CY and I went to Cherating for a midnight snacks. The girls had enough riding a car with boys, so they called it a night and headed straight to slumberland.

I tot I'd been to Cherating before, but the road looked so unfamiliar. I dont even know where I stayed before. So I just left it to him and his friend to bring me anywhere they want to.

To summarize, we went somewhere (Teluk Mak Nik), with someone (Hock Jin n GF), and ate something (buttered squid - omigod it was so good).

Heh heh.

The next day, we went to Chukai for lunch. All six of us headed for this infamous Tong Juan Restaurant. In front of Kemaman's rivermouth.

We had this RM6 per piece stuffed crab. I never ate stuffed crab before, so I couldnt compare. But tastewise, it was great (with that chilli sambal).

The flesh of the crab. So meaty and nice. Wish I had 2.. hi hi :)

We also had the sambal udang. I was scared my allergy would attack, hence, I just limit myself to one piece.

On top of that, we feast on Steamed Red Grouper (Kerapu merah) in sesame oil, fried Kailan in oyster sauce, and rice (duh!).

I had coconut AND cateye (longan) drink to quench my thirst.

Right after we had lunch, we headed for Coffee. Apparently this coffeshop was so famous, there's a segment in Astro AEC channel about it.

Being famous would also means that kiasu Singaporean would swarm the place.

True enough, there was 2 bus-loads of them + 15 Hyundai cars convoy making a beeline into the shop. On the second though, there was no such thing as law-abiding-singaporean-in-malaysia, so there were busloads of them shoving and fighting over limited tables (and not to mention, ate french toast with fork n knife).

The minority, surrounded by Singaporeans :p

These waiters had had enough attended to their whims and whines, they were complotting to slip a pack of chewing gums into those singaporeans' LV's handbags.

Anyway, I had black coffee and a bite of these handmade kaya toast. I was bloated already, so, dont ask me how does it fare. Nice I think. And someone had tea at the COFFEE shop :p.

Just when I thought the gluttony was done, they decided to have keropok lekor (fish crackers), sata (fish paste) and otak-otak (brain brain).

By 4 we're really done and headed back to the hotel.

At 5.30 Cat and I headed down for a couple of laps in the pool and the sea to undo the damage.

The sea was choppy though, it literally threw me away...

So after like 10 minutes we were back to the pool.

Cam whoring to examine the damage.

Barney, Sanjaya and Martin Sheen (Treasure Hunt Part III)

From Karak we headed for Termeloh.

By then we already gave up. Our approach was 'if we could answer, good, if not, lets move'..

It was almost 3 and we were only hald way. Still, we were oblivious with that fact because we bumped into 5 cars at Temerloh town.

The Most Trusted Name In News
=============================

We made it to Maran around 4.++. That was another pain. The town was small, so we believed its easier for us to spot the tresures. Not!

Spend like 30 minutes there but still got nothing. I reread the tulips to make sure we were in the right town. We were in the right town, so where are the treausures? Me managed to get two ('Attaturk?' Answer: Mustapa bin Kamal shop and 'Taste So Good' answer:Bakery) out of 5.

Its 5.20 and we're still 75 KM away from kuantan
=============================
Panic!!!

The submission was at 6.00pm. By 6, 2 points would be deducted for every 5 minutes.

There's no way we could make it to the Kuantan leg. Decided to skip the town and go direct to the Swissgarden. The catch was, we didnt know how to get there...

Reluctantly, we had to follow the tulips. By 6.15 we were in the town.. cricling like mad.

To make things worse was the Friday traffic. And the traffic light.. Gosh, I think town councilor was drunk when he decided to have 7 traffic light installed within 500meter on the way to Swissgarden.

And curse our luck when we had to stop in 5 of them and wasted 2 precious minutes on each stop. Just when we thought we were the last to arrived, we say car no 17 and for what ever reason kept following us, maybe its their strategy.

Suddenly out of nowhere, there's this car no 24 zoomed haphazardly and left us biting the dust (and somehow managed to beat the light).

Finally, we (car no 12) submitted our answers + treasures at 6.48p.m. with car no 17 right behind us (by a minute).

We found out that the had to follow us because they lost their way. They too realised too late that they were well over the time and decided to skip kuantan and went straight to cherating. The they realised the final stop was not at Cherating but kuantan and had to went back, and luckily, thats where they bumped into us.

And what da ya know, 2 minutes later we saw this Car no 24. Apparently they missed the hotel and went further and had to turn back. Karma!

All's well ends well. There were about 5 cars behind us. We are not the last to arrived. Phew.....

The Idol, the Assasinated PM and a Merdeka(Treasure Hunt Part II)

First pit stop. Wangsa Maju.

'Our chairman next to a star here' .... the clue was. The answer was Sun-Rex logo at the auto shop there.

The first 3 were easy. So we were so confident. We took a break (for a breakfast).

The journey went downhill from this point onwards.

Thanks so my superior navigation skill, we made a wrong turn at question no 4, 5, and 6. (I'll compile those Q later..)

Being foolishly stubborn, we refused to give up and kept on searching in vain for the next 45 minutes before CY read the tulips and noticed the error.

*Sigh*

But we were confident still, because we had 11 hours for the whole journey.

By then, my mind were already cramp, and my jolly mood was gone. And at that point, I was officially so hating Suresh (the guy who came out with these ridiculous questionnaires).

For Q 7,8, 9, and 10 we had to came at the same road. Which added to the anguish and confusion.

The Q9 was 'the event we celebrated last year'. What event? What did we celebrate last year? None of the shop got something to do with celebration. There was one shop though (Kleen Success Laundry), that I belive would be related to any event we had last year, somehow remote.

The answer turned out to be a graffitti on the wall.. 49th Merdeka. Like wtf man, during briefing, he said the sign would be permanent one. So we ignored all the graffiti and 'non-permanent' signs we encountred.

So, we left 2q and moved on.

Soapy Salami
=====================
Q14, Q15, Q16 and Q17 were at the Tmn Sri Rampai area. 'Bruce's Favorite Cuisine perhaps?', and 'Soapy Salami was chopped here' were among the Q asked.

It was almost noon and it was scorching HOT. Sans mood, sweaty and burned skin... Vague clues didnt help either.

At first we thought bruce was batman's bruce. So we were looking high and low for batman related signs. Gave up. Were about to leave the area, CY decided to make another turn...

Then we saw it. Mee Kung Fu! Its bruce lee eventually! Like duh...

But we still couldnt get Q14, and Q15. For Q17 we took a gambe (it was paid off).

Then off we goy on the highway to kuantan. We were severly over the time, but we still couldn grasp the dire state we were and thought we were doing fine.

4 Qs 1 Correct Answer
=====================
The pit at Karak was a disaster. Of all the 4 Q, we could only get one right.

We took a lunch break there. Another disaster. The food was the most unpalatable stuff I ever forced myself to swallow. Not to mention the amount of flies,

would put this kid to shame.

And the bathroom? I had to make 2 trips, but still, I just couldnt....

A Soapy Salami, a Massive Headache and a Bibik (Treasure Hunt Part I)

'I'll be there in 10'.

That was how my day was started at 5.45 am on June 1st 2007. With a duffel that weight for a 2 weeks trip instead of 2 days, I went down and waited for him by the roadside.

He zoomed ight in front of me. Made a u-turn, and missed me again! Am I that invisible? :p

'Just wait there.. I'll walk to you.' Exerted sweats at dawn, strutting 300meter with two tonne worth of stuff (which later i realized i dont need 3/4 of them) on my back.

So, off we moved to the office. Cath and Aisah were already there. Reached there by 6.20. Registered outselves and waited.

Overall, there were 23 teams competing for the treasures. About 1/3 consist of team like ours (colleagues). The remaining were families. I was amused to see bibiks (maids) were among the team members. The idea of the bibik reading tulips (in heavy indo accent) tickled me to the bone.

By 7, Travelling Ducks were on their way to Kuantan.
