Totally forgotten about the olympic torch relay in KL today.

When I was downtown to collect my SIMcard I was greeted by the noise which I first thought there was a 'reformasi' rally somewhere.


Then I saw the flags. I was like, where am I? What happened. Then it hit me. Oooooo. Dang it, wrong timing.


Went nearer to get a glimpse of the torch runner. There was this huge human chain (people in white t-shirt) all the way there.


And they dont look local at all. With those oh-so-Republic features with impeccable ROC accents, i'm guessing they're students from China.


And each and everyone of them were either holding the mainland flag or the placard saying about Tibet and China as one.,

and fcuk off to the falun-gong, kidding, made that up. heheh.

Scared the incident in Europe happened here, the police presents were also beefed up from 600 to 1000 strongs men.

In the end i got to see glimpse of the runner on the wheel chair as they headed towards KLCC.

And what do you know, a good 20 minutes after that, the sky fell (raining cats and dogs)like there's no tomorrow.

Or Not

Went there, and nobody had any idea what I was talking about.

Oh well.

IT's Friday and I have No Eye Dear

So just post this new toy i've been fidgeting for the past 4 days.

People Unclear About The Concept of System

Me: It's not in the template for items to be tested, but I did get some e2e tickets for this server.
ABAH: Could you please do the test then? Test the threshold to 25%. I want to know it works.
Me: I don't think it's necessary. It has proven it worked, right?
ABAH: Yeah I know, but how are you sure it worked?
Me: I GOT THE GODDAMN TICKETS GENERATED BY THIS GODDAMN SERVER.
RAPP: I see ABAH's point and it was an excellent one. I think you need to put the test in the form. There's no indication int he form saying that the e2e works.
Me: *rolled my eyes* I wont do the test because the system works just fine.
ABAH: It's just a small test. I need to see somewhere in the form that the the e2e works.
Me: Why dont I just put the remark "The test wasn't done. However, the system works because there's e2e notification generated from this server."
RAPP: Fine
ABAH: Ok. But you need to tick the box saying that the test was done. Your attitude stink.

Once Upon A Time at Dinner Time

Went to Tony Romas for dinner last week.

The fried mushroom was a bit oily. The batter was good though.

Ok lah, the best I had in Malaysia. So far.


Bought some groceries on my way back.

I bought lamb chop which I hadd a couple of days ago.


And this haddock fish. There was no price when I picked it up on the freezer. I thought it's going to cost me around 20-30. When the cashier rang up the item, to my horror, it was freakin' 54.90! I was like omigod! Should I put it back? But here's quite a long queue at my back, so like it or not.. I bought it lah.

That was the most expensive fish I ever bought. To add the salt, it was not that great tasting!

Well, it's karma!

Out of Business

I frequented this row of restaurants in Taman MElati area. The usual weekend lunch pad was at the Leha Kelfood. And next to it, had got a restaurant specialised in Soup.

My friend love the soup and dessert there, but I found it to be so-so.

LAst time we went there about a week ago, I found out it was out of business.

About time.. hi hi.

The thing about this restaurant was that it used Adabi products as seasonings. Nothing against the company, but I think the spices are not that palatable (at least for Penangites). Back at home we use Tarbus.

Whenever I saw the Adabi commercial, I would quipped to myself "Kesian raja2 zaman dolu, makan tak sedap" (Pity the early Kings, their food are unpalatable) because it's tagline is "Sajian Istana Di Zaman Silam" (Royal Banquet default spices).

Come to think about it, growing up, 1¢ had got no value already. Back when it's still doable/possible to imitate MJ for the malaysian Indian, the lowest denomination that had significant value was 5¢ (goh puat, lima det). 5¢ could get at least a candy (Hacks; the orange one if youre lucky, and black if you're not). And my pocket money was 20¢.

Better yet, those 20¢ would lasted till the school session ended. But of course those Maknya and Ahpek beyond the school's fences had got better idea on how you, not so braniac 7-12yr old pupil, show better spent those 20¢ away. With rows and rows of those colourful, great tasting junks, that you'd become so spoilt, Paris could blush.

There's Snap, Kandos, Sugus, Mamee, Chickadees, Mi-mi, Oya, Kam-kam (or was it Kum Kum, Eileen?) and what not. But, not Tora or Ding Dang though. At 50¢ per box, there are categorised as luxury items. Could only be affordable when your older relatives (granma usually) drop by and give you extra pocket money. Not my granma though, when she visited, she would only brought a Danish biscuits, fruits or Pala (Nutmeg)... euwww.

Anyway, that was then. By the late 80s, 1¢ was so outdated, nobody would pick it up if they saw it laying around. By then, the 1¢ was better known as Duit Karan (electricity money), i.e. meant only for paying your utilities bills.

To my amazement, it survived till yesterday though. Do you know it costed about 2.3¢ to mint a 1¢? With ever spiralling copper price, I think its a wise move to discontinue minting it. For what it worth, it had its moments of glories. Now it's time to take a bow and say Sayonara!

The Life & Times of 1¢

In the beginning, there was Kijang Emas, ca. 1500s

The 'Kijang' coins derived their name from the motif of the Malayan barking deer or kijang embossed as the obverse design. This coin is believed to have originated from India and first issued in Kelantan and Patani when the religion in these states was Hinduism.


Then there was this Silver Tanga (not tanggachi) that was issued by the Portuguese, 1629 - 1635, in Melaka.


Next we had the British East India Company Penang Coin.

Penang became the first British Settlement in the Malay Peninsula in 1786. The first coin struck for Penang with the balemark of the British East India Company (E.I.C.).

We also had the Private Issue Tampang, ca. 1860s; Tin; One cent with Chinese characters.

In the 1860s, certain Chinese tin mine owners were authorised by the Bendahara (Sultan after 1882) to cast their own Tampang up to a certain limited value. The name of the relevant Company or Kongsi in Chinese characters was impressed on the flat top of the pyramid stump.

And lastly, the 1c that we knew today took it shapes around 1948.
This coin was issued by the Board of Commissioners Of Currency Malaya in 1962.
