Bless the Beast and The Children

As part of this year corporate community's project, the committee has come up with the "adopt A child' program.

Employees are encourage to 'adopt' a child by granting at most three wishes to their children. If you asked me, I think the whole concept of 'adopting' is being misinterpret here. How could you adopt a child by just granting him/her three wishes and 'cuci tangan' (wham bam, thank you mem) after that? hmmm..

Anyway, that's not the point I wish to debate here. Two things that caught my attention, that compelled me (awww, how nice of me!), to shared them with you guys, my precious readers which lately are bum lazy to read without leaving any comment!.

Those 2 (two) things are: THE AMBITION and THE WISHES

Let's look at those wishes, shall we:

Standards wishes that we, the adopted parents, should fullfill: Stationery sets, exercise books, dictionary, geometry sets, clothings, scientific calculator etc.

Fine lah, even though I could have swear, when I was in school, we were not allowed to use calculator for Math. The only aid I had back then was the red 'Buku Log' (time table like) to calculate that trigonomety-thingy manually.

Plus, learning in bahasa, we also required to know all the silly terms like 'lokus dalam dua matra', 'teorem pithagoras', 'garis dan satah', 'penaakulan mantik', 'modus tollens' and 'modus ponens' (excuse me, but in Bahasa Utara, ponen is sissy, imagine the fun we had back there when our math teacher mentioned ponen) and much much more, which didnt make any sense back then (or even now).

To the higher extreme, this guy was asking for the microscope. I'm sure the price is not the issue here, but getting one might be. I have yet to see a microscope being sold anywhere, well, unless he meant the Toys R Us version :p

Then, enter the absurdity. Yonex? Nike? Have u heard a brand name Bata before? I thought that was untill I reached at his wish #3. Almost died of heart attack. Gee, need laptop to do your homework? Sorry hun, uncle doesnt even have a PC to do his actual work, let alone a laptop....pencil and paper will do your you :p

well, well, well, for a guy with no ambition, you sure asked a lot, arent ya?

=====================================
And as for the ambition (or lack thereof), gone is the day when they all want to be a teacher, bomba, corrupt policemen, ahli majlis tertinggi UMNO, or what not... here's what kids nowadays aspired to be:

A business man.. good good! :)

CEO!!! Even better. :)

Wah lau weh, psychologist. Repect that!!! Jangan jadi psycho sudah.

FORENSIC! Must be influenced by the CSI series. Anyway, you made this uncle proud ;)

Wartawan penyiaran (Anchor Woman)???? Ok lah.. Its still a job what..of course I wouldnt approve that, but hey, whatever makes you happy!

But then hoo.. come this hillarious girl with a sound backup plan shall her dream of becoming top Neurosergeon and/or oncologist foils:

....... freaking STEWARDESS!!!!!!! she's willing to trade her scrub for a kebaya...

Coffee or tea sir?

stewardess... hmmm.. neuro.... STEWARDESS... whyyyyy???
Sorry, bukan menghina pekerjaan itu, but from neurosurgeon to stewardess, very hard for me to digest... *let me get my aspirin*

Malaysia to Get $800M for Bridge Project
Associated Press 07.13.07, 1:26 AM ET

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - In its first substantial investment in Malaysia, China said Friday it will extend a $800 million low-interest loan for the construction of a lengthy bridge in Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's home state.

The Export-Import Bank of China will extend the 20-year loan to a joint venture between Malaysian state-linked UEM Construction and China Harbor Engineering Co., the two companies said in a joint statement.

The bank will charge 3 percent interest on the loan, according to the statement. The loan will cover about 80 percent of the estimated cost of the project, Second Finance Minister Nor Mohamed Yakcop told reporters.

"The loan amount is the largest given by China for a single project in a foreign country and reflects the close bilateral ties between Malaysia and China," the companies said.

The joint venture will build a second bridge to link Malaysia's high-tech Penang island in the north with the mainland. The 23-kilometer (14-mile) long bridge is expected to be completed in 2011.

China Harbor Chief Executive Sun Zi Yu told reporters his company will control 51 percent of the venture, and is also looking for other business including plans to expand Malaysia's rail network.

UEM Construction is a unit of Malaysian government-linked UEM Group, while China Harbor Engineering is a unit of China Communications Construction Co.

I simply dont get it..
Why the bridge has to be from Batu Maung to Batu Kawan (A) ?

Why cant they build from Georgetown to Butterworth (B1)? It would be shorter and cheaper, and the toll would be less too.

If the traffic is the reason, route B2 is more viable (from Tg Tokong to Bagan Ajam). The traffice there is about the same from (A). Hmmm.

All In A Day's Work (Part III)

OFFICE POLITICS 103:
Managing Projects

Users are the most fickle minded creatures that you'll ever dealt with. Document everything!

On top of those users, there's 'PROJECT MANAGER'. Another almost-baboonic creature that you need take care of.

And those never ending every-week-status-update meetings!

What the projects usually deliverd.

And to think that you have to train the users... *sigh*

Will make you wish you had this....

All In A Day's Work (Part II)

OFFICE POLITICS 102:
Getting the job right -aka- Survivalhood

Tip no 1: Upon hiring, first thing you should do is to check who's who. Every company should have the org chart. Memorise it!

Tip no 2: Rubbing shoulders with the upper echleon are important! Degrade yourself if need be.

Tip no 3: Watch out for the career-minded individuals (see tip no 5, point 15), those varmints are everywhere and hard to get rid off.

Tip no 4: The yearly assessment period is the most painful period in your career. No matter how good you are technically, if you does not make yourself visible, be VERY afraid.

Tip no 5: Use generic-yet-sounded-sophisticated words to buff up your assessment's document.

All In A Day's Work

OFFICE POLITICS 101:
Getting the job right (or getting the right job)

Choose the right job carefully.

Tip no 1: The 'IT' company. Preferably Forbes 100 types of companies.
If you choose the wrong job with the wrong company, thats the end of your career. Your resume would be tarnished, no other company would want to hire you.

Tip no 2: The 'IT' company. But dont choose the 'IT' company for your first job.
Or other companies might think you're already overpaid. And they dont want to hire you because they couldnt afford you.

Tip no 3: 1/4 More.
If you think of changing job, your new salary should be more than 25% from your current salary. Otherwise, dont waste your breathe.

Tip no 4: Fringe Benefits.
Choose a company that provides excellent benefits on top of those superb renumeration.

Worse come to worst, be an entreprenuer. It pays.

Balcony's view 2: The other side. The Buddha temple is clearly visible. And it is next to the Shri KaliAmman Kuvil.

My Room's View: 31st August nite would be a blast! I could watch the fireworks displays from almost all major places. Dataran, Bangsar, Bukit Bintang and the KLCC. Priceless.

Kitchen's View 1: Well, if youre tall enough you could see this view.

Kitchen's View 2: Sentul Perdana and the Sentul West.

Well, this is not a view from my place. Its not even in KL. I grabbed these from my former colleague, Mr. Quah from BHL.

A house(!!! *gasp* why so many rooms one) in Bukit Jambul.

Sighted outside my old apt. It's the usual advertisement garbage. They no longer shove this inside the postbox, but painstakingly slip into every houses' grills.

What caught my attention was this stupid advertisement. Potong Rumput (Cut the Grass service) ??? Like hello! This is an apartment...

Not a single patch of green could be seen.... what a waste of papers.

Just because he drives beemer, he could park anywhere he likes.
