Balik kampung, o o o , balik kampung..
wait wait wait... my so called 'kampung' is Georgetown lah. Therefore this song does not apply to me. :p
For this Ramadhan, I managed to shed 4 kgs - unwillingly. Last Ramadhan; 5 kg. Sigh, I was a skinny lad, and I hate being one. My teacher always teased me, she said if I stand from my side, i'll vanish. That was 10 years ago when I was 48kgs.. and 3 years ago, my colleagues called me a 'fat boy'! I was only 67 65kg back then. The world has gone nuts! Now i'm 58kg... and too scared if I got too skinny or too fat..
Anyway, Eid is just around the corner. Could not say I'm looking forward into it. My mum no longer sews my Baju Melayu, nor does she bake raya cookies anymore. But I'm looking forward for her ketupat. Because she will put black-eyed peas inside. So yummy! Only her and granny will put beans on their's ketupat.
Raya morning, visit grave before the Solat. Tabur bunga di atas pusara Granpa Pengiran Sahid, Granpa Allapitchay, Granny Norian Bee, Granpa Abdul Rahman, Granny Aminah Bee, and the rest of the families.
Then everybody will congregate at my granma place for the big feast salam-salaman, maaf-maafan.
The weird thing about our family is that I, or any other working age members, have to give ang pau to our younger cousins. We are not talking about 10 of them, or even 20 of them.. Its 56 on my mum side and 42 on my dad! Well, even if its RM2 per head, you do the math! But giving RM2 is unthinkable.. you'll get frowned upon by those mamis and mamus jarum. And not to mention, those brats saw RM2 inside their ang pau, they will scream and humiliate you, saying what a 'kiam siap' you are. Therefore, to avoid a scene, they came out with the general formula; RM10 for high school and RM5 for elementary.
And my own formula is to come back home during second day of Eid. Because, in Penang, Raya is only for a day.. On the second day, everything goes back to normal. Not even kids outside going house to house collecting money... Lovely! :p

Island's view from the ferry.

Penang landmark, the KOMTAR. From the jetty.

Look at the second menu. Pork bread.

...and right next to it, its halal satay stall. Hmm.. only in Penang!
