Tersengal sekejap

bumped into this guy from the previous wing.

Him: Ko pindah mana sekarang?
Me: *dalam hati* apesal dia nak tahu kat mana aku tinggal ni?
Me: Sentul

Him: * Muka lain macam jer.. dia turun lif.. *

5 perpuluhan 5 saat berikut baru aku perasan!! Ya Allah, dia maksudkan new cubicle.. apesal lah aku sengal sangat ni.

Cubicle baru. Pagi2 silau mata, pedih muka kena matahari.

and on firday i had a bad backache. didnt know why.. turned out that there's a sharp corner cutting through my back (sa chi).

So i change my screen direction. the energy now hitting me from the side.. better than from behind.

I am also considering an option to move to the next cubicle. See how lah.. with current cubcile I could at least restrain myselt from facebooking :p

oh btw, sesegnal2 aku tidak lah sesengal budak MAO (budak pasang PC). lihatla gambar di atas (gambar no 2 - sharp corner), pasang PC pun terbalik.. as in atas ke bawah, kalau bukak cd drive harus cd jatuh ke atas lantai..

Ishk, masa aku cakap English engkau omong Indo

Over the phone she was speaking prokem with me.. and now during the IM, the role has been reversed:

A Famil Sul... Hallo
N K Ilmawat... yes hallo
A Famil Sul... problem, EER.ini
N K Ilmawat... yes what's the problem?
A Famil Sul... applikasinya is referring to I:\Appl\MOI\NewExp
A Famil Sul... sama seh ama previous version
N K Ilmawat... yap but the file is different ya
A Famil Sul... version kemarin juga EER.ini
N K Ilmawat... previous*.mdb
N K Ilmawat... the current is accdb

A Famil Sul... gimana accde and mdb mau bedakan
A Famil Sul... didalam folder itu cuma bisa ada satu eer.ini
N K Ilmawat... hmm, you're right!

Risking another ban :p

Phew.... the racks finally came!

As usual lah kan, since im the only jantan around, tenaga ku dikerah! Lain kali kalau jangan join IT kalau tau ko tu pompuan.. Jadik jer mcm bijik2 kat bawah tu (prev entry).. Bimbo job kaedahnya!

Imagine I had to handle all these!!! Luckily got dell "engineers"** to assist.

When I reassembled a rack they were like "whoaaa, how do learn to do that?"

Like duh, it's not rocket science, plus i did this before, but on HP rack. :p

So yeah, after two weeks, the rack and laptops/desktops were assembled.

Hmmm.. not enough space to put a chair anymore!

But as usual, someone else got all the glory... when all she did was turned up at 8.30am and another at 6pm barking order and said this laptop should be like this and like that.. well, crazy*** is her surname anyway. what do you expect?

** they called themselves engineers, but their product knowledge and rough looks make me believe they're more coolie than engineers. As if im any better lah kan! :p

The consequences for talking bad about work on the blog!

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Seriously I dont see the point!

Busy busy busy bee.. As if base and non base works are not enough, now I got an instruction that we had to move cubicles (more like swapping). by Friday!!! *Arghhhhh*

Same floor, different direction. Reason being? so that the same dept could be "closer" together. Quatation mark because some would still be further apart.

Like seriously??? Wasted manhour for this futile movement. Newsflash, we change org every two years, and the two years line is approaching. What next? Move again?

This isn't 1990s where everyone should sit together. My manager is in Houston, supervisor is in Buenos Aires. I dont see the point for me to move around so that I could be closer to the local supervisor (which changes like every 6 months).

If i need to interact with others in this floor, there's always a phone, email and Instant Messages.

Unnecessary Stress!! FML!

Sigh, I'm longing pre BSC time...

I did NOT

A year plus have I left the group, assuming my R&R had been taken over. Of course la kan, with blue-eyed, high profile replacement, they should be..

And few weeks ago I received this embarassing email from our senior techinal writer commenting on the (internal) website that "I" developed.

=====================================
Also, the "Under Construction" page says "Stay tune..."
maybe add a "d" for the benefit of native English speakers...

OMFG!!! I was so pissed:
1) The new developer used my template AND DID NOT removed my name from it.
2) I would never submit sub standard work (well, blog is different matter) esp high profile project like department website.

Shoot an email to prev supervisor :
Could you please instruct the new site creator to update the Primary Site Contact and the Support Mailbox on the IRC.

And please ask her to go through the QC first before publishing.

=====================================
Could be a career suicide because that girl is next in line for management position. But heck I dont give a fly!

Of course that girl took it badly and was so defensive arguing that she did consult others before publish it. *dropping some names*

my response??

"Them? No wonder..."
*turned to my prev sup* "I rest my case.." and walked away!

Almost six month hiatus

Well, I hope the drought wont recur.

Caught up with work for the couple of months previously. The replacement didnt really perform as expected. She tried, but she could only take the easy application. For application that needs scripting or custom action (majority of the app), she had to pass it to me.

Cant blame her much. This is seriously not an level entry job. You need to know at least how to tweak the windows registries (HKLM, HKCU, HKU), some knowledge in batch files programming and VBScript and a good imagination (you need to foresee this function would do what in an application). Granted we only repackage whatever vendor gave to us, but most of the times vendor app is not enough to make work in EM environment.

BTW, for those who had no idea what i wrote above my job simply: Got the app from vendor --> Repackage it to our standard --> Make available to users in add/remove program. Example, we got Adobe Photoshop from vendor, we re-engineer the app i.e remove whatever functions not needed, add our controls, etc and we give it to our users.

On top of that, there's this lab restacking activities. And because I was the only male around, automatically responsibility the fell on me. Pretty pissed, but no point of complaining. Just do it.. save the headache and heartache.

Before:
================
Instead of moving 4 pcs to the left, the bitch who did the planning wanted to move everything to the right. Tried to reason with her, but she's not having any of it.. citing about she's more experienced than I was and it was her project. She's aiming for supervisory position next year, and wont let lower ranked person like me to become a hindrance.

During:
================
So, i alone had to move more than 15 pcs to the right side, unwired and rewired. Reconfigured KVMs and Network (Cisco routers) and relabeling.

After:
================

Oh and its not done though... Next monday, 100 new desktops/laptops are coming with 6 additional racks. The idiot want to put the rack next to the wall, blocking the hot air from being ventilated. Moreover, the wall is from the cardboard. and the floor wasnt enforced as in the 7th floor server room. Dont know how it could hold 100 machines in 6 racks in such a small space!

Thats one of the reason I was away from blogging, although deep inside I was raging mad...

Independent/Interdependent
===========================
People in Malaysia are more interdependent than you. This means that they may conform to social norms more than you do. Because of this, your counterparts from Malaysia may:
- Require more input from others before taking action than you do;
- Take more time in their decision-making process than you;
- Be less forthcoming about speaking of their achievements than you;
- Offer fewer personal opinions and be more cautious in expressing disagreement than you;
- Have more appreciation of protocol than you.

Your profile is very close to the average profile of people from Switzerland on this dimension. This means that you may be similar to your counterparts from Switzerland in the way you think and feel about:
- The degree to which you should conform - or not conform - to social norms;
- How much privacy - or lack of privacy - is to be expected in a given situation;
- How and when personal opinions should be offered and disagreement expressed;
- How much individuality and/or adherence to protocol is appropriate.

Task/Relationship
===========================
People in Malaysia are more relationship-focused than you. This means they are likely to spend more time building and maintaining strong relationships and place less emphasis on efficiency and timelines than you. Because of this, your counterparts from Malaysia may:
- Be less likely than you to focus on getting a task done if it is at the expense of maintaining harmonious relationships.
- Place less importance than you do on reaching goals and objectives on schedule;
- Be more indirect than you in offering criticism of other's work.

Your profile is very close to the average profile of people from Switzerland on this dimension. This means that you may be similar to your counterparts from Switzerland in the way you think and feel about:
- The amount of time that should be spent on building and maintaining relationships;
- The degree of emphasis that should be placed on efficiency and adherence to timelines;
- The extent to which it is appropriate to criticize the work of others.

Short-term/Long-term
===========================
People in Malaysia are somewhat more focused on the long-term view than you. This means they are likely to place more emphasis on the "big picture" and less emphasis on short-term profits. Because of this, some of your counterparts from Malaysia may:
- Take more time than you to develop business relationships, but they may also expect them to last longer;
- Spend more time planning how they will meet their long-term strategic goals;
- Involve more people in making decisions and thus take more time to finalize them.

People in Switzerland have somewhat more of a short-term orientation than you. This means they may place more emphasis on short-term results and profits than you. Because of this, some of your counterparts from Switzerland may:
- Develop business relationships more quickly than you;
- Place less emphasis on the "big picture" and more emphasis on getting things done quickly;
- Spend less time planning for long-term strategic goals;
- Make decisions more quickly than you.

Direct/Indirect
===========================
People in Malaysia have a somewhat more indirect style than you. This means they may be less direct and more ambiguous in the way they communicate. Because of this, some of your counterparts from Malaysia may:
- Be less willing than you to ask questions or give direct feedback in meetings, especially when more senior members are present;
- Be more subtle when expressing disagreement;
- Be less willing to debate issues in public forums;
- Prefer that certain things be left unsaid.

Random Post for Week 11 2009

I just don't get it. How hard is it to clean your own mess? Just a couple of wipes and you're done. Oh, btw, this mess was made by a woman.

Woman driver. She just park haphazardly and left. She's the one in white under the lamp post to cross the street. We should make acid throwing legal for the following 'sins':
1) Park like you owe the road
2) Cut queue on LRT/ cashiers
3) Do not clean up your mess
4) Use MIC products :p

@ KLCC. Bumped into a parent at the gent changing his baby's nappy. Doesn't he know there's a changing room next door?

Okayla, I gave him a benefit of a doubt, perhaps the room is occupied. SO i went to check!

Nada! Vacant! Ishhh.. aku lepuk kang..

and ohh should throw acid too..

While I Was Away,

the company had had the annual dinner. For the second year in a row, I missed it. I heard it was a blast, and from the pic I saw, I believe that it was a blast indeed (dalam bahasa melayu, meletop!)

Every year there will be a theme, and this year, the theme was 'Fantasy'. The crowd came in every forms and shapes imaginable.

Some made it to the final, some left empty handed; all had jovial, unforgettable time nonetheless.

Some spent a fortune for renting, some just being creative and DIY their own costumes.

The dinner was held at the Palace of the Golden Horses (another reason why I was shying away.. too far). The entertainer were Farawahida (who?) and Faizal Tahir. And a lot of Emitian won the lucky draws.

Nothing much to say, just enjoy these pictures below:

Spot the MCOBA boy(s).

The wizard and the witches.

The fans need to get things out off their chests, that is by telling Faizal how huge a fan they are.

"Aku berlindung daripada syaitan yg direjam". She devil.

Mother nature. People, we need to respect mother nature and stop polluting. Look what happened to her. It will take years to undo what we did, but it doable. So, starts now!

Wonder woman. Makes you wonder is that a real woman.

Malaysian Fairies. Or should I say, Feri Malaysia.

Hah ngko, baju tidor jer dia pakai. Fantasi juga tu.

With the new increment, Im making less!

Looked at my salary slip, I got less after increment. I was like, wtf?

Found out later that because of my new salary, Im now under the new tax bracket.

And with the decrease in EPF contribution next year, I'm paying more to IRB. I.e. getting less disposable income.

To illustrate:

Old Salary: $5,000
Epf: 11% @ $550
Taxable income: $4,450
Tax Bracket: 20% @ $890
Net Income: $3,560

New Salary: $5,100
Epf: 8% @ $408
Taxable income: $4,692
Tax Bracket: 25% @ $1,173
Net Income: $3,519

Like WTF???

Update:
Sayugia diingatkan bahawa borang (Borang KWSP17A - AHL) hanya akan diedarkan 1 Disember 2008. Jangan berlengah kerana bulan disember ramai pekerja akan mengambil cuti. Cuti2 umum yg perlu diketahui:

Raya haji; Isnin - 8 disember
Krismas; Khamis- 25 Disember

Sila semak penyata akaun kwsp anda sekurang-kurangnya 3 kali setahun.

Part One: Over and Over Again
=================================

The Email
=========
Subject: IMPORTANT! PVMG Driving Safety and Food Safety Training Certificates

I have been requested to centrally file the above 2 certs for our group. I would appreciate if each of you can provide me copies of the certs by tomorrow. Sorry for the short notice as this has been a short notice.

For CETS/SETS, I did get your PVMG cert and forwarded to Houston but I did not make copies of them. Can you kindly re submit to me, please.

My Response
==========
1) Again????? I didnt even made any copy the last time we did it. Plus I dont see the point why we need to do so, it's already on the system, why do you need another hard copy proof?

2) Whats the relationship between completing the 'courses' and not charging them on Planit (Timekeeping system)? Just because some idiots forgot to charge the time, everybody has to go through it again?

Part Two: London Shopping Spree Anyone?

The Announcement
==========
Lower EPF Employees' Contribution Rate Starting January 2009 Wage

Members of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will be able to benefit from the reduction of the employees’ monthly statutory contribution rate by three per cent, from 11 per cent to 8 per cent, effective from January 2009 wage for a period of two years.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak made the announcement during the winding up speech for the Ministry of Finance on the 2009 Budget on Tuesday. The move will help increase members’ disposable income in the context of the current economic outlook. At the same time, the higher disposable income will support domestic consumption and thus help sustain the momentum of economic growth.

The decision to reduce members’ statutory contribution rate was taken twice before in 2001 and 2003 as part of an economic stimulus package.

For ease of members and to better facilitate implementation of the measure, the reduction of the employees’ contribution from 11 per cent to 8 per cent will be made automatically, effective from January 2009 wage. This arrangement will be implemented until December 2010 wage.

However if members wish to maintain the contribution rate at 11 per cent may choose to do so by filling up Form KWSP 17A (AHL). Once completed, the forms can be submitted to the members’ respective employers for submission to the EPF.

In the meantime, the EPF will be issuing a new monthly contributions schedule accordingly. Members and employers may obtain the new schedule and Form KWSP 17A (AHL) from all EPF branches or download them from our website, myEPF, at www.kwsp.gov.my from 1 December 2008 onwards.

Source: Najib's Coffer.

My Response
==========
Penalise the prudence... Need to fill out the freaking form just because you want to maintain? I cant believe my ears when I heard it on the news today.

The News
==========
Heard Over the News about a statement made by this Bagan Dato parliament member saying that KAFA (Kursus Asas Fardhu Ain - Religion thingy) teachers payment were made by JAKIM and not by Perak's MAIP.

My Response
==========
So not true, MAIP has been paying RM250 (and now increasing them to RM300) since the beginning. I know that because I developed the system for them :p

Another High Achiever Who Turned Out To Know Zero

Found out that one of the HP-UX server had a wrong TimeZone.

Contacted the primary support for that server. She gave me 1001 excuses saying that it's impossible to change the value once you set up the server already. Unless I wanted to reinstall everything from scratch.

I was like, WTF?

Take the matter on my own hand. Created a PMTS ticket. Assigned to myself. Logon to the server.

Just by chance you stumbled upon my blog. Here what I did:

1) Assume root privilege
$ pb su

2) check TIMEZONE file
mysvr01:/root# cat /etc/TIMEZONE

you get something this:
TZ=EST-10EDT
export TZ

3) edit TIMEZONE file
mysvr01:/root# vi /etc/TIMEZONE

change the EST-10EDT to SST-8
TZ=SST-8
export TZ
~
~

exit & save vi editor
:wq!

4) Logoff and logon (can skip logon logoff by exporting TZ=SST-8 to ENV). The new date /time will be displayed.

Dont know which timezone existed? check with your '/usr/lib/tztab' library (google would be great too).
Done. That simple. I dont have to reintall the freakin whole server, do I?

Geeeeee... Cant you see im busy layering this:

Jawapan Sedap Mulut

Email from Miss X, from my former department colleague Dated 28Sept:
============================================

FYI, it is suspected that there was a network problem on 25th September 2008. Therefore, the Access Admin report dated 25th September 2008 was not sent to the xxxx shared mailbox.

This is because another Log Reviewer also didn't receive the Security Scan report for brehad03 dated 25th September 2008.

Unfortunately, the Access Admin reports that are generated on a daily basis are not archived.

Therefore, the Access Admin report dated 25th September 2008 cannot be retrieved and cannot be resend.

==============================================

I almost fainted reading her email:

1) If dont know, ask. There's a documentation which clearly specified this :
accessadmin.log Main logs file
accessadmin.log.day1 Yesterday's logs archive
accessadmin.log.day2 logs archive (2 days ago)
accessadmin.log.day3 logs archive (3 days ago)
accessadmin.log.day4 logs archive (4 days ago)
accessadmin.log.day5 logs archive (5 days ago)
accessadmin.log.day6 logs archive (6 days ago)
accessadmin.log.day7 logs archive (7 days ago)

2) Even if you missed the 7 days period, you could always get it from the main log. There's a retention period of 2 years for that log.
logger -p local4.info "[STATUS] : [MENU GRP] : [MENU APP] : log message."

3) Thats the way to reply to the auditor / log reviewer? Digging your own grave!

So, I had to undo the damage. Luckily I still have my ID. To think that she was ranked much higher than me!!!! FCUK!

Farewell, for me

As I mentioned before, I had moved to the new dept. Naturally, my ex colleagues celebrate my departure.

The occasion was meticulously planned by Suriani. however, due to her prior engagement (not to mention nicer foor over there in PJ Hilton), she couldn't join us..

It was a little bit unnerving when I arrived at 6.30p.m and there were only 6 of us.

Do they really hate me that much?

Fine and dandy then. So, I just walked around, mystified by rows and rows of food being served that night.

Fortunately by 7pm, the crowd had swelled into 16 people. Phew...

We broke our fast with good food and laughs.

Reminiscing the good old days in Midrange. (NOT!)

Everybody was happy.

Each got a chocolate.

Part of me was happy to leave the group. But I felt that I could have done better in that group (ranking wise). technically, I'm as competent as those on the table. But I wasn't that visible.

She (my ex-Supervisor) said, she believed I would be flourished in this new assignment and she really want to see me being somebody. 4 years with 3 job rotations under her (eBus, QA & Midrange), she really knows me that well.. I'm touched!

Now, people can no longer say, wherever she goes, she will bring me (and CT) along.

I'm free and I'm scared. Changes could be so daunting. :p

Meraba Aku Dalam Kegelapan

It was Monday at 5am when I woke up sweating and panting. Why is it so hot? Tried to switched on my bed lamp.. nothing!

Dang, no electricity!

Went to work, found out that the Singapore server didn't work. There was an outage on Sunday. So when the server was rebooted on Monday, it wasnt really properly configured. There's one ultra high priority file waiting to be transmitted, therefore the pressure is on. Spent about 3 hrs to troubleshoot that one.

Then, there's this idiot who deleted the password file already. Therefore we couldn't move into the new server as planned. He even got a cheek to ask me to request the password from the owner. I told him to fly kite.

On top of that, I was assigned a new task for the new job (I moved dept already, no longer doing midrange, I'm a brick layer now) and was expected to deliver ASAP.

And out of the blue, I got nagged by someone saying that the recipe I gave doesn't really work. I just ignored the message, thinking it will go away.. NOT! Turned out that I forgot to put a cup of sugar on that recipe. *rolled my eyes*

I just turned off my IM.

Luckily Tuesday was better. Well, the morning part was a nervous rack one because we all got a notification to attend the Mandatory briefing at 1p.m. It sounded so serious, i thought either:
1) We were moving to Cyberjaya (I'll quit because there's no life there),
2) Some serious safety incident had occurred (The difference between trauma and no big deal: A trauma is when it happens to me, No Big deal is when it happen to others. SO yeah.. Its a no big deal then, maybe except I wont be getting a new knapsack for hitting the 2million safe hours record)
3) We all gonna loose our jobs, just like those folks at Lehman Brothers. (Shite...)

I attended my new Manager's briefing. So, around 1.04pm he broke the news. Something about winning proposition, bla bla bla. And he handed out the envelopes to all of us. Yippeee.. (It's not bonus)

Well, my name wasnt in his list. Therefore I had to go upstairs (to my old manager). When I arrived there, he hadnt finished briefing yet.. ah typical him. always has tales to tell.

True enough, afterward he called my name. Took the envelope and leave. Suddenly hell broke loose. Everybody was booing at me and chant "ingrate!". Bewildered, I wondered why.

Turned out that each of us have to shake his hand in gesture of gratitude. Some even kissed his hand. I was like, WTF? He's paying my salary gah?

So, again, I did something so unMalay, upsetting him terribly. Oh well, I was already on his black book anyway. But I did turned back and shake his hand.

Anyway, went for iftar with Ritz (what a tarty nick) and Ezami. Carl's Jr Pavillion.
