Sayonara Deano... Good luck in Es-hell

Hard Rock * 19 April 07 * Deano's Farewell Dinner

I was super sick with the fever. Nonetheless, since it was his last dinner as a co-worker, plus I already committed, I decided to join.

One for the group.

At first there were 6 of us. And we thought the others couldnt make it. But by 6.30 they're 11 of us making the most noise....

Snap snap... after the food were served.

It proved that even when I was sick, i still look amazing! :p

Deano recieving the parting gift.. the card to be exact.

The Food
=====================

Le Dessert... Choc mud pie basked in lots of sprinklers (I called them chocolate rice, but back then in IU, my American friends laugh at me when I said choc rice), nuts, icecream and syrup.

What do I have for the main course? (Hint: I was sick!)

Was it this tender-juicy-beef fajitas with guacamole, sour cream, and cheddar cheese.

Or this succulent pan-fried-chicken in mac N cheese?

Or was it this extra crisp-honey-bbq-glazed grilled chiken with baked bean and coleslaw. Yum yum!

I know.. it's this asian touch fried to perfection rice?

No? Then it must be this slab of cruelly-slain-nursing-cow-for-her-meat thingy with canned veggies and powdered whip potato?

Well, I had none of the above. All I had were the RM10 fries and a Rm7.50 per glass mango juice. I just hate overprice foods.

Then I found out that the juice was not refillable (unlike in Chili's).. Surprise surprise... Being a cheap bastard I am, I sneaked into the convinient store across the road and bought a carton of orange juice for RM5!

.. and while the waitresses were not watching, I quickly poured the juice into my glass.. and complained that the ice cubes melted already. So confusely, they refilled the cube.

GOOD LUCK DEANO. TA-TA!

The Pakciks Who Got Scared

I was munching Capatis last nite @ the Signature, KLCC.

They waited patiently for these arabs folk to finished up their meal. Then only did they purchase their meals and sat at the table (which are still unkept).

The buzzer then asked:
BZ: Why dont you sit somehwere else?
PT: Boleh ka? Bukan apa, nanti kalau duduk tempat lain, tuan punya kedai marah. Sebab kami tak beli kat kedai dia. (Is it possible? We thought you could only seat near the stall you bought your food.)

*cebisan capati tersembur dari hidungku*

Others empty seats.... Plenty of them.

Ganu Mari...

PT= Pokcik2 Ganu. Hi hik. They came in groups to watch the installation of the new King.

What language is the last one? There's BM, English, Chinese, Tamil and ...? Sighted inside the A&W. The funny thing is there was a table for patron right under the sign.

Stumbled upon this stuff when I was with MT for dinner. I would vomit blood if I had to shove this thing to gain weight.

Last time I drank Sustagen to gain weight.. and gained 10kg. I tried appeton weight gainer.. but it tasted horrid.

Plus, the weight gainer always come in gallon containers.. while the diet pills come in ... pill.

Do you know that the American ginseng is more expensive than the Korean? It does in the GNC store. The Korean is RM56 while its american counterpart is RM154.

Phew, Finally Done With That PADP* Cycle

PADP = Performance Assessment and Development

=============
Disclaimer: This is merely a work of fiction:

Just like list year, the assessment result sounds fantastic. I would expect a promotion soon and a hefty increament. I was so happy...

Then he left the discussion room, but performance handbook fell. I grabbed it and were about to return it, but decided to had a peek before I pass it back to him. You know, so that I could know what attributes they were looking at/for.

What I found horrified me...

What those words on the review REALLY mean
OUTGOING PERSONALITY - Always going out of the office
GREAT PRESENTATION SKILLS - Able to bulls**t
GOOD COMM SKILLS - Spends lots of time on phone
WORK IS FIRST PRIORITY - Too ugly to get a date
ACTIVE SOCIALLY - Drinks a lot
INDEPENDENT WORKER - Nobody knows what he/she does
QUICK THINKING - Offer plausible excuses
CAREFUL THINKER - Wont make a decision
USES LOGIC ON DIFFICULT JOBS - Get someone else to do it
EXPRESSES THEMSELVES WELL - Speaks English
METICULOUS ATTENTION TO DETAIL - A nit picket
HAS LEADERSHIP QUALITIES - Is tall or has a louder voice
EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD JUDGEMENT - Lucky
KEEN SENSE OF HUMOR - Knows a lot of dirty jokes
CAREER MINDED - Potential Back Stabber
LOYAL - Can't get a job anywhere else
OF GREAT VALUE TO THE ORGANIZATION - Gets to work on time
RELAXED ATTITUDE - Sleeps at desk

So whenever your boss commended you with those qualities.. Be wary, very wary.. as he might have the copy of the handbook as well. ;)

=====================
Update: My boss commented my PADP was more narrative than previously. She said 'as if you'd wrote this for the creative writing, not the technical writing', and added 'please be more articulate and concise.'

All I could think was... 'My my, what the blog has influence me into...' :p

Me: OK thanks for the ride. See you soon.
MT: Cya

Stepped out... Yeay, kitty!!!
Grab one and pat its head.. and saw another one on the ground..

Suddenly I heard a kitten shrieked at the back. Turned and saw the other kitten! Fidgetting under the car. There were actually 4 of them. And someone rolled into one over.

The eye popped, tongue stucked out.. Gory!

Then the other kittens scrurried around the dead kitten.. and sort of moarningmourning...

The Facts About White Men (SPG 103)

CC: Why those expat so snob one?
Me: Because their salaries are quadrupled yours?
CC: Hmppphh..

=================
Who is an expatriate? Obviously anyone coming to work in Malaysia or Singapore from another country. For that matter, a Nepalese security guard could even consider himself an expatriate.

Time was when expatriates lives in big bungalows and led swank lives. They swaggered through Malaya as though they owned the place. (Well actually, they did, for like 400 years). But those days have gone forever and the expatriate community has changed dramatically. The last of the old-school colonialists have packed their bags and slunk away into the mists of time.

Today's expat will be younger and more enlightened. And given the economic problems of the West, many are happy to work in Malaysia on local wages and conditions. They travel by LRT or taxi, while more affluent Malaysians speed by in beemer or jaguar. They queue up at the food courts, while local businessmen luxuriate in five-star hotel restaurants. They wash their own laundries and clean their own toilet, while local families employ two or three maids to do the same works.

And, of course today's expat mix more freely with their fellow Malaysians. Instead of retreating to expat ghettoes, they'll be rubbing shoulders with your average Ah Kit. Chances are, they'll even marry his sister.

And contrary to popular believe, the average Caucasian does not live a highly glamorous lifestyle. Most nights he will be home alone, watching TV and fantasizing over the female newscasters.

When his phone rings, it is mostly a wrong number. His biggest thrill each night will be soaking his white shirt and actually removing some of the stains. He will eat alone at a 'posh' restaurant like the Pizza Hut or the KFC.

Myth and Reality:
====================

Almost all Caucasian men consider that they possess Godlike physiques, charm and sexual prowess. What they do possess, in fact, are God-awful versions of the above.

A white men also believes that Malaysian girls are acrobats, ready to bed over backward to please him. For their part, Malaysian girls think they are from a circus, too: the freak show, possibly as The Elephant Man.

Are white men more generously endowed that local men? According to Malaysian girls, about the only thing expatriate is good at extending is his credit limit. Caucasians men appear to need constant reassurance that their organs are significantly longer. Being polite and not wishing to offend, Malaysian girls tell them exactly what they want to hear, even though the reverse is actually the truth, thereby perpetuating the myth.

Therefore, the notion "ang moh tuah kee" (white men big thing) is not only inaccurate, but downright offensive.

Classification of the Expat
====================

While, most expat think that all Asians look the same, it seems that most Asians think all expat look the same too.

Therefore it is important to understand the cultural differences of the ang moh species. The Australians aren't the same as the Austrian. The British aren't the same as the Belgians. And nobody is the same as the New Zealanders.

The Wizards from OZ
==========================

Many overse**d Australian expatriates have wrongly been called lechers. Actually, lecher is a common Australian word used in such phrases as: "Lecher hair down, luv" and "You go on top and I'll lecher know what it feels like".

Many Malaysian women believe that 93% of all Australian Expatriates are called John. According to legend, only one of them is called John, but he's slept with 93% of all Malaysian SPGs.

Not all Australian men are interested in women. Over half the visitors to the Bukit Bintang are believed to be Aussie airline stewards. In a recent survey comparing the Eiffel Tower with Qantas stewards, it was discovered that not everyone had been up the Eiffel Tower.

Blue Blood English
==========================
Once, the most s** excitement an Englishmen could ever expect was from a pickpocket. Then, along came SPG.

As former colonial masters of Malaya, British expatriates believe they have a distinct advantage over other nationalities in the pursuit of local girls.

Many Englishmen believe they can attract Malaysian women simply by lifting their fingers. What they don't realized is that when they lift their little fingers, many Malaysian women think they are having an erection.

The Brits are famous for having stiff upper lips. However, Malaysian girls wish that other parts of their bodies were equally as stiff.

When a Brits expats asks a girl for a quickie, it is on of the rare occasions when he is actually being honest.

Sadly, 82.4% of all Brits expats have slept with a transvestite. Apart from saving money, lonely British men are quite accustomed to having people turn their back on them.

Nevertheless, the polite, courteous Pommie still earns a top rating. At the back of her mind is the remote hope that he might even be related to royalty, or at least Roger Moore.

Free Scotts
==========================
Scotsmen are more secretive and conceal their genitalia beneath their tartan skirt. Malaysian girls are often confused as to which clan a Scotsman actually belongs. All she has to do is lift up his kilt. If he has a quarter-pounder lurking beneath it, he is obviously a McDonald.

The Scotsmen are also amazed that so many Malaysian girls have deep voices, hairy legs and Adam's apples.

The Swiss Fondue
==========================

Because Swiss is a neutral country, Swiss expat ensure their attempt at lovemaking is also neutral. Going to bed with a Swiss expatriate is about as exciting as spending Saturday afternoon in Geneva.

Many Swiss men believe they possess a male organ would rival the Matterhorn, whereas local girls don't think their horns matter at all.

The Dutch
==========================
There is no truth in the rumor that Dutchmen prefer lesbians, despite the fact that Holland contains many dykes.

Dutchmen prefer to make love under the windmill. Since there are none of them here, they lead a celibate life.

Scandinavians
==========================

Should an SPG goes to bed with a tall, blond-headed man and ask "Are you finish, lah?" he will probably answer "No I'm Swedish". The scandinavians never go to the brothels because they believe in free love.

=================
Me: Well, that about all the expat men that u need to know.
CC: Wait.. how about American?
Me: If u think I left out the Americans on purpose, you got me wrong.

To be perfectly honest, the slick, young, buttoned-down Americans wouldn't be seen dead with an SPG. A local girl, yes, but not an SPG.

The American Navy, however, is an entirely different kettle of fish. When a Yankee ship drops anchor, so does she. She'll be in the front line at the Port Klang ready to give her all. Many a sailor returns to his vessel, exhausted, after firing off a few rounds with his 8-inch gun.

The Marines swear by the SPG: they're impressed by the bravery of a girl who's always prepared to go down with the ship.

Tak Kuruih Kuruih Pun....

AFS: Lunch mana?
NSY: Tak lunch. Diet.
AFS: Eiiii..
NSY: Lepas ni mesti kuruih..

Nak kuruih lagu ni ka?

Weekend Random [Week 15 2007]

Had lunch at the KFC. Got this very active kid which reminded me of Yin. Running around knocking stuff out. At fist I thought he was a she was was like 'Boy, got girl this active meh?'. And then 'her' father called her in a boy's name. She's a he after all :p

Her-she
Went for a 3 games of bowling at Ampang Bowling, Berjaya Times Square. Scored 106, 112 and 135 respectively. Personal best. Because usually I scored around 70!

Watched 'Sunshine' afterwards. Not recommended. Pretty illogical for my standard. The basic rule of a mission itself had been violated. Plus the aunties next to me were having little picnic (the plastic bags ruffled every minute created unpleasant background noise).

Ayam Golek
Had chicken again for dinner. Ayam golek (rolled chiken?). Tasty!

Rainy Days and Mondays
======================

Was on medical leave. Just got back from clinic and lunch.. and suddenly the sky literally fell...

I had to take shelter at the temple. Thunders rumbled with the most frightening booms and I got pretty scared.

And after about 30 minutes waiting, i had enough.. scram it.. and braved the rain and counted my luck for the lighting not to strike.

After like 10 steps I got all drenched up...and started to feel... GOOD! So I decide to play in the rain... It was the best feeling ever.. Felt like i was 6 again!

Got into my room, took a shower and cuddled under the blanket while listening to the raindrops outside. Felt so serene....

Luckily I didnt wait till the rain stops. because it rained till late at nite.

Silhouette of KL city view.

Week 14 Update
======================

Met MT and his friend for coffee. Asked him to get me the Curve. And Curve he delivered. Au Gratis!! Merci! Merci! Smile smile.. *I owe u lunch*

LAter that evening, went to Melium Group Housewarming Party with Elin. Everybody was in BCBG, Armani, D&G and stuff.

Brushed shoulders with lots of local celeb... and we felt so out of place. So after a while we decided to had dinner at Chili's. Socialising could be so darn expensive

I dont really like the new Aseana look. Somehow you feel... void!

Hailing For A Taxi In KL Could Be Stressful

If not for the Infamous-Pea-Brain-Malaysian queue cutters, you have to deal with Another-Pea_Brain cabbies who will choose the destination they would drive you to.

So true, sometimes you have to literally beg them.

'Tak pergi!', 'jam', 'dont know' are the usual excuses given. Up to the point I believe that all attitude laden cabbies are offsprings of now-defunct-PYB* conductors.

At the tourist spot, they would choose their customers. Typical Malaysian wont stand a chance to hail a cab at KLCC.

Someone stole my cab this morning.

*PYB: The Penang Yellow Bus
==========================

Back then when Voltron, Thundercats, M.A.S.K and Jem rule, there were four companies servicing Little Penang island. They were PYB (Yellow), Lim Seng Seng Bus (Green), Hin Bus Company (blue) and local council's MPPP Bus (also yellow). The services and routes could be deemed as superb. There were definite bus routes that ply the main roads in the City, the outskirts and the tourist attractions areas (Bt. Feringghi, Tanjung Bungah, Waterfall, Penang Hill, Mt. Erskine..hi hik).

I always fantasied myself taking the bus ride to those exotic places like Gertak Sanggul or Balik Pulau or strolling around Kg Seronok where, according to my grandma, everyone there worshipped the sun (hang toksah dok pi kat sana, depa sembah matahari, nantisat depa tangkap hang, bagi kat Bang Baguk, baru hang nak tau..). Alas, those dreamt were never materialised, partly because I was busy loitering at Suiwah (local supermarket) or playing with mud skippers at tanah merah while watching ferries went to-and-fro Butterworth-Georgetown.

Jelutong was served by MPPP bus and the PYB. However, no one would want to board those MPPP bus because its so inefficent, dirty and slow, the soya-bean-vendor Ah Pek cycled faster than the bus.

Boarding the PYB bus was sort of like buying Toto. Sometimes you win (good service), most of the time you loose(bad to nasty service), but no one ever won the Jackpot. The first culture shock you would encountered was when those pale-yellow uniformed ah soh screamed 'faster-faster' and the driver would sped off as soon as your first leg stepped the stair.

Then you would get the grandfather storied shall you failed to produce small change for the ride. The conductors wouldnt care if youre a child or an old auntie. When they scolded, they would just screamed. No one in living memory could let us know what would happen if you got out/into the bus through the wrong door (front door only for embarking/ back door disembarking).

The hell ride would get worse shall the grey-uniformed superitendant decided to have a spot check on the passengers (for free riders). If you failed to produce the ticket, you're doomed.. with capital 'D' (my thought was, the superitendant were promoted from the meanest and nastiest conductors).

So, the ride to Tanjung could spoilt your mood entirely, but rest assured, a good glass of heavenly-concocted Line-Clear Sarbat (shorbet !?!) would transform your mood instantly (just like when Jerrica touched her earing.. and transformed into Jem).

Those were the days. How times have changed...
